“It’s the slow knife…that cuts the deepest” (I knew watching The Dark Knight Rises would pay off)

Close your eyes for a minute. I want you to think about everything you’ve done today. A typical person might say that they drove to work, walked a few blocks to get to their job where they sit down 7 – 10 hours a day. Then they drive back home just to sit down and relax. Sound like you? Afraid emoticon

And if you’re exercising like most people I’ve encountered, then you go to the gym, workout without a warm up or cool down, and you go home thinking you’ve done your body good.

This tightness that you gain from your everyday life is the “slow knife”. You might not feel the tightness build up each and every day. But then you step wrong on a curb or you twist in your office chair to reach that low drawer or you decide to go to the gym after months of not exercising . And you injure yourself (Oh No!!!!).

Let me paint this one more time. Guys, imagine wearing a suit that’s way way too tight (I’m talking skinny jeans, but a size too small). Girls, imagine wearing a dress that’s way too tight (If you’re an 8, imagine wearing a 4!). If you’re not stretching or lengthening your body’s muscle and tissue through stretching, than its like you’re wearing a tight suit everyday; and the suit is just getting tighter and tighter.

Obviously stretching is going to make you more flexible, but it will also reduce stress , increase circulation, decrease pain thumb up, and give plenty more benefits.

So get your butt up and start stretching. You can even do this while watching TV or right before bed, so really there’s no excuse.

Stay tuned for future posts where we’ll dive into some important stretches.

And remember:

In order to achieve something you’ve never done before, you must be willing to become somebody you’ve never been before
